Communications Manager, Collective Impact - United Way of Coastal & Western Connecticut, Inc.

Position Summary 

The Communications Manager for Collective Impact position is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position that will play an integral role in the success of the three collective impact organizations supported by the United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut. Our collective impact organizations work to ensure that all Stamford, Bridgeport, and Danbury children succeed in school, career, and life. Our partnerships include hundreds of active members who align resources to improve the lives of Connecticut children and their families measurably. The Communications Manager will work with staff, volunteer team members, parents, students, and partner organizations to publicize the collective work, activities, and events, while also helping to promote the work of our partners in supporting children and families in our communities. The role of the Communications Manager is to help parents, families, caregivers, educators, and the community at large understand the essential role of Stamford Cradle to Career.

Position Overview

The Communications Manager creates, plans, and measures compelling content across all media channels and platforms to support brand awareness, fundraising, advocacy, volunteerism, and community engagement. The Communications Manager also develops relationships and boosts coverage through media alerts, press releases, and interviews with team members.  

Essential Functions

• Develop a presence on social media platforms for the three collective impact organizations, disseminating information about events and activities, while also keeping parents up to date on resources and activities available to them, both locally and statewide. 
  
  

• Responsible for creating a marketing strategy for the Stamford, Bridgeport, and Danbury collective impacts.
  
  

• Create content, schedule, and manage social media posts. Increase followers on social media platforms and make social media sites a go-to for information about educating and raising children in the communities we serve. 
  
  

• Work with student interns to support/improve social media presence with youth. 
  
  

• Lead collective impact organizations through brand development processes, including the creation of logos and social media pages.
  
  

• Update and maintain websites for each collective impact organization, keeping the homepage, posts, and resources up to date, with the assistance of an external website administrator. This includes listening to and incorporating input from parents and students. 
  
  

• Attend collective impact organizations’ events and capture media, including photos, videos, and interviews with team members and participants.
  
  

• Write press releases and follow up with local media to ensure coverage of Collective Impact Organization activities.
  
  

• Create flyers for events and other partner events and activities throughout the year.
  
  

• Create Annual Reports for the three Collective Impact Organizations.
  
  

• Assist Collective Impact Leadership with writing tasks, including bi-monthly reports and letters of support.
  
  

• Work with translator/translation services to translate materials to multiple languages as needed.
  
  

• Co-facilitate monthly Communications Network meetings.
  
  

• Other Duties as assigned
  
  

Position Requirements 

• Experience in social media communications via major platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  
  

• Experience in Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat. Experience with online content creation platforms, such as Canva.
  
  

• Experience with video editing paid media placement, web traffic metrics, and Search Engine Optimization a plus.
  
  

• Experience with Search Engine Marketing is strongly preferred.

• Excellent writing and interpersonal skills.
  
  

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and, Teams
  
  

• Willing to participate in ongoing professional development.
  
  

• Bilingual is a plus.
  
  

• Demonstrated ability to communicate with multiple audiences in a culturally competent manner. 
  
  

• Candidates must understand the challenges and barriers faced by marginalized communities, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, class, ability, immigration status, gender, and their intersections, and have experience engaging with and working alongside communities of color. 
  
  

• Familiarity with the communities we serve and its nonprofits, and activities/events/programs serving children and families is an asset.
  
  

• Ability to travel to meetings/events, including some nights and weekends.
  
  

• This role is located in Stamford.  Candidates from surrounding towns also highly encouraged to apply
  
  

• Required to spend time in Stamford, Bridgeport, and Danbury offices on a rotating basis.
  
  

• Required to provide a sample of work before and during the interview process.
