Are you passionate about shaping the future of democracy and amplifying the voices of young leaders? We are seeking a dynamic Communications Director to lead our press and media operations at our company. As the Communications Director, you will play a pivotal role in promoting the successes of our members, crafting compelling narratives, and bolstering our brand. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy & Public Affairs Officer, you will oversee our communications team and spearhead strategies for engaging with the press and the public.
You'll be instrumental in advancing our mission of fostering inclusive and effective leadership among young policymakers, with a focus on driving positive change in our democracy. This role involves extensive press outreach, acting as a primary liaison with national reporters, and producing impactful written content, including blog-like stories highlighting the impact of our bipartisan legislator-members.
The ideal candidate is not only a strong and creative writer but also brings a wealth of experience in communications, preferably within a legislative context. Responsibilities
Develop and adapt our communications strategy to effectively communicate the our story, mission, and activities to stakeholders and the general public.
Frame the collective efforts of young lawmakers as a national movement for better government, securing premium national press coverage and establishing a Young Lawmakers' Speakers Bureau.
Expand our storytelling capabilities through projects like the Young Lawmakers' Storybank, identifying and sharing compelling narratives.
Facilitate opportunities for our leadership and lawmakers to engage in media engagements, including speaking engagements and interviews.
Create messaging toolkits, draft speeches and op-eds, and oversee the creation of various written communications materials.
Manage relationships with the press, ensuring premium national coverage and building strong media connections.
Contribute articles to the Storybank and oversee employee contributions, providing editing support as needed.
Assist with copywriting and copyediting for our annual Impact Report.
Perform other communications-related duties as required.
About You
4-7 years of relevant experience in communications.
Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for editing.
Experience in personnel and project management.
In-depth knowledge of communications best practices.
Passion for the mission of our company and a commitment to working across party lines.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, Hootsuite, Quorum, Cision/PR Newswire, and graphic design experience is a plus.
