Position Overview:
Seeking for a Commodity Manager to join the team. This role is responsible for the strategic management of assigned commodities and products globally. The Commodity Manager will work with cross-functional teams to manage supplier execution and performance, implement sourcing strategies, and deliver value through process and project improvements that reduce the total cost of material acquisition, improve revenue and gross margin, align the supply base, enhance product quality, and reduce overall risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion supplier development and facilitate quarterly business reviews.
- Define and communicate the commodity strategy to all organizational levels and suppliers.
- Recommend and implement strategic plans to improve the total cost of ownership and mitigate risks related to the supply plan.
- Monitor and communicate technology transitions and life-cycle roadmaps for related industries.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable regulations, laws, and standard practices.
- Evaluate current and new suppliers to improve service levels and seek continuous improvements in cost and efficiency.
- Negotiate Master Supply Agreements to maximize value and focus on achieving high inventory turns.
- Optimize the supply chain of goods and services from suppliers to customers, focusing on lead time reduction.
- Participate in or lead cross-functional teams related to quality, pricing, inventory, and material availability.
- Monitor and report on supplier and commodity market trends.
- Participate in supplier quality audits to ensure conformance to corporate requirements.
- Own and update supplier scorecards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field OR 8 years of related experience in a similar working environment.
- 5-7 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supplier quality, or operational management.
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 30% of the time.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of engine components and manufacturing processes, including casting, forging, stamping, and machining.
- Previous experience in commodity management, strategic sourcing, or engineering.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma.
- Previous experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrated skills in cost reduction and bidding techniques to maximize value.
- Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers.
- In-depth knowledge of purchasing techniques, including strategic supplier concepts.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of supplier contracts, product conformity, quality tools, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Ability to assess market dynamics and perform end-to-end industry assessments, analyzing the competitive landscape.
- Ability to identify market and supply risks and develop contingency plans.
- Track, report, and reconcile material price variation (EPPV) and purchase price variation (APPV) with financial teams.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work well under pressure, maintain composure during dynamic situations, and meet deadlines.
- ERP knowledge.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to talk, hear, and manipulate objects or controls.
- Regularly required to stand and walk; occasional stooping, bending, or reaching above the shoulders.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25-50 pounds.
- Frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional travel may be required.
