Job Summary:
Are you ready to be a part of a dynamic team? We are currently seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to play a pivotal role in maintaining profitability and achieving production objectives for a designated group of agencies in Michigan. As a Commercial Lines Underwriter, you'll be responsible for underwriting new commercial business, renewing policies, and processing policy endorsements. Additionally, you'll evaluate risk exposures and seamlessly integrate underwriting functions within our workflow.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Underwrite New Business: Evaluate and process new commercial business, renewals, and policy endorsements to meet agency profitability and production objectives.
Risk Assessment: Continuously assess and mentor others on understanding exposures related to individual risks.
Agency Analysis: Collaborate in analyzing agency and book of business results to pinpoint necessary corrective actions.
Support Division Goals: Partner with the Commercial Enterprise Division and Regional Sales Manager to ensure underwriting profit through strategic measures.
Action Plans: Develop and communicate specific action plans with agents where necessary.
Premium Goals: Assist the Regional Sales Manager in setting written premium goals and provide support to achieve them.
Agency Promotion: Advocate for our product line benefits to agencies through visits, calls, and mailings.
Reporting: Generate territory performance reports and develop action plans for leadership.
Agency Engagement: Actively participate in agency meetings, events, and collaborate with loss control representatives.
Practice Group Leadership: Lead or participate in practice groups, coordinating and documenting meetings.
Custom Reports: Develop reports for loss control representatives to share with accounts.
Communication: Maintain effective communication with agencies to support premium goals.
Mentoring: Serve as a reference for underwriting staff.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Minimum of three years in commercial multi-line underwriting.
Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in mentoring others.
Preferred Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field.
Certificates in General Insurance and completion of the Associate in Underwriting program.
