PGS Worldwide is actively seeking a skilled Combat Vehicles Senior Mechanical Engineer to support ongoing projects for an Aerospace leader in San Jose, CA. This is an initial 12-month contract-to-hire opportunity and I will respond immediately to all qualified candidates.
Job Description:
The role of a Combat Vehicles Senior Mechanical Engineer:
- Provides Engineering Production Support (EPS) for transition of new design to production and resolves issues encountered in the build process.
- Generates new designs to help meet requirements and meet cost and schedule constraints
- Designs efficient interface components for integration of new products
- Investigates root-cause analysis of design issues arising during production and develops the associated change documentation to resolve design issue.
- Works closely with a team of design engineers and other specialty engineers to resolve design issues that span such areas as structures, ballistics, mechanical, and logistics.
- Prepares presentations and variance documentation in response to production issues to support vehicle sales.
- Perform Trade Studies or Tolerance Stack Analyses in design or investigation support.
- Analyze and interpret design specifications, drawings, documents, models, and test results to ensure technical designs comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements
- Create and edit CAD models in PTC Creo and ensure systems are designed for producibility
- Design and analyze welded and bolted joints
- Conduct root cause and impact analysis when issues arise to determine the optimal solution given cost, schedule and priority constraints while factoring in feedback from all key stakeholders
- Use finite element analysis tools and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Provide input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets and ensure tasks meet cost, quality, schedule and performance requirements
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, papers, and presentations
- Troubleshoot and diagnose testing issues with components, document test issues, and maintain an organized data log
- Work with suppliers to facilitate cost and quality improvements
- Acquire and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, industry practices, trends and applications
Requirements:
- B.S. degree in a relevant technical discipline (typically mechanical or aerospace engineering) plus 4 years relevant experience; or a Master's degree and 2 years relevant experience.
- US Citizenship
- Must be organized and have excellent communication skills, demonstrated ability to perform technical presentations.
- Must be a self-starter that takes ownership of tasks and drives them to completion
- Good engineering analytical skills with experience doing root-cause-corrective-action
- Knowledge of finite element analysis tools and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience designing, analyzing, and integrating state of the art technology onto combat vehicles. - Experience with solid models and mechanical designs using CAD systems, preferable PTC Pro-E or Creo or SolidWorks.
Desired:
- BSME or BSAE
- Experience with tolerance analysis, trade studies, FEA Analysis
- Experience with engineering structures design, prototyping, production and test environments with relevant ground vehicle applications in the defense environment.
- Experience communicating with internal and external customers.
- Experience with military standards and good manufacturing practices.
- Extensive knowledge/experience with drawings, models, and GD&T standards and application.
