Combat Engineer - Intrepid Studios

Intrepid Studios is looking for a passionate and talented Combat Engineer, interested in creating brand new worlds with a brand new IP. This individual would live and breathe MMO combat! They will work with cross departmental teams to test and improve every aspect of our combat systems from player experience to network performance and beyond. They must work well with others, enjoy and seek out collaboration, and to receive, act on, and supply constructively critical feedback. A passion for MMORPGs is required!

What you will accomplish:

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to critically test, evaluate, and improve every detail of AOC combat
• Profile, analyze, and improve combat systems for CPU, GPU, memory, and network performance at scale
• Complement the team with your unique background developing great feeling combat
• Create and document complex systems in a clear manner, including technical design documents and code reference documentation.

What you bring to the team:

• A minimum of 3 years of working full time as an engineer in a game engine, preferably Unreal
• A minimum of 1 year working full time on combat in a multiplayer title
• Ability to articulate (both in written and verbal methods) implementation details about the systems driving combat and how to leverage them to make great feeling combat
• A positive, collaborative, and self-motivated mindset that works well with other developers, including developers from disciplines besides engineering
• Experience with version control such as Git and Perforce
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related equivalent experience

Extra Awesome:

• A passion for critically analyzing, distilling, and developing great feeling combat
• A passion for playing and developing MMO games
• Familiarity with Ashes of Creation
• Experience with AAA game development
• At least one shipped title 
• A portfolio that demonstrates examples of combat that you have worked on in previous projects
• A portfolio that demonstrates a keen eye for detail and the ability to create maintainable, high-quality code
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to guide and mentor engineers in their efforts

The Legal Bits:

We offer competitive pay based on market standards plus a significant annual bonus structure. The base salary for this role is between $98,000 - $137,200, depending on skills and experience. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall throughout the range based on these factors.
