Role Overview: As a Collections Representative at Suffolk Credit Union, the primary responsibility is to manage the collection process by monitoring delinquent accounts, negotiating payment arrangements, and ensuring compliance with policies. This role processes all collections notices and assists members with collection issues, offering guidance on repayment options while maintaining positive member relationships. Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are essential to balance the credit union's financial interests with providing excellent service to members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts collection calls on negative accounts and consumer loans as needed.
- Processes restraining notices, CUNA claims, disability, bankruptcy, and death notices.
- Prepares deceased files for referral to outside attorneys and processes reclamations.
- Handles weekly collection reports and the charge-off process for negative accounts.
- Manages payment plan logs, follow-ups, and fields calls on closing deceased accounts.
- Provides backup assistance for eOscar disputes and vehicle repossession processes.
- Posts daily payments, including those from collection agencies.
- Assists members with collection issues and collaborates on payment solutions.
- Liaises with third parties like insurance companies and mortgage services.
- Completes ad-hoc projects, maintains logs, and ensures accurate records for collection activities.
Essential Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will a high school diploma or equivalency certification. One (1) to two (2) of collections experience required, financial services preferred.
- Knowledge of credit union collection procedures, policies, and products.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and intermediate mathematical skills.
- Strong member/customer service skills and experience handling sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability in independent problem-solving and meeting multiple deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with members and third parties.
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and responsibility.
- Capable of working with direct supervision on daily tasks.
