What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Collections Clerk to contact clients and collect outstanding payments. This position will work on the collection efforts and delinquency controls of the company, ensuring money billed and owed is received correctly and promptly. The Collections Specialist must balance between maintaining trustful relationships and ensuring timely payments.
What You Will Do:
- Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts.
- Investigate historical data for each debt or bill.
- Find and contact clients to ask about their overdue payments.
- Take actions to encourage timely debt payments.
- Process payments and refunds.
- Resolve billing and customer credit issues.
- Update account status records and collection efforts.
- Report on collection activity and accounts receivable status.
- Ensures proper preparation and delivery of letters, notices, and other communications regarding delinquent accounts.
- Conducts, or assists third parties in conducting, skip-tracing according to established practices.
- Negotiates with customers to amend repayment terms, as appropriate.
- Recommends legal action for specific accounts and follows through, as necessary.
- Communicates the status of delinquent accounts to the Senior Collection Manager or other appropriate personnel.
- Contacts creditors and consults attorneys as needed for settlements on bankrupt accounts.
- Reviews accounts and recommends for charge-off as appropriate.
- Ensures the security and privacy of customer information and files.
- Performs other customer service-related duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by Controller.
What You Will Bring:
- At least 1 years of experience in collection and credit work, or a similar role preferred.
- Basic understanding of applicable state and federal collection laws including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- Knowledge of billing procedures and collection techniques (e.g. skip tracing)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and customer relations software.
- Ability to work with a team and independently.
- Basic understanding of statistics and data analysis.
