CLASS SUMMARY: This is the second and advanced journey level in a three level Code Compliance series. Incumbents perform inspections of residential and/or commercial buildings, materials and/or other applicable areas to ensure compliance with all local, state and/or federal regulations related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, signs, landscaping, concrete work, pools, and parking requirements. Responsibilities may include: reviewing construction plan documents; conducting field inspections of applicable structures and/or materials and identifying violations; identifying code compliance issues and offenses; preparing reports; enforcing applicable codes, laws and regulations; attending meetings; maintaining applicable databases; and/or, performing other related activities. |
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) |
1. | Conducts field inspections of applicable structures and/or materials; reviews construction plan documents; identifies violations and code compliance issues and offenses; and enforces applicable codes, laws, and regulations. (B2) |
2. | Coordinates with internal and/or external departments, personnel, and agencies, including the public and contractors; attends meetings to facilitate department operations; work may involve providing technical and general information and assistance to the public, contractors, and relevant stakeholders; and addresses and resolves complaints. (B2) |
3. | Prepares, maintains, compiles, and/or updates reports, records, files, and other documentation; and maintains and/or updates applicable databases and systems to ensure timely and accurate documentation. (B2) |
4. | Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. (N/B) |

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. |
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Valid Texas driving license required. Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) Inspector's License International Code Council (ICC) Certification(s) Licensed Code Enforcement Officer certification through Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation |
