ENGINEERING/CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
The Metropolitan District is a non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929 to provide potable water and sewerage services on a regional basis. Today, the MDC provides quality water supply, water pollution control, mapping, and household hazardous waste collection to eight member municipalities - Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor - and to portions of other towns in the region. The Engineering Department, which includes planning, design and construction, is looking to hire full-time (37.5 hours/week) college interns through a co-op/internship program.
The Intern will report to the company's Engineering Department in Hartford.
DUTIES
- Assist Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers with engineering tasks associated with the preparation, review, and administration of water and sewer projects in various stages of design or construction.
- Assist with various field tasks associated with the planning, design, investigation, survey, and inspection of utility projects. Field work may also be utilized to assist other departments, such as Operations & Maintenance.
- Assist with the preparation of documents and other related administration tasks in support of projects in stages of completion in planning, design and construction.
- Assist with the preparation, tracking, and review of record plans and specifications. This may include coordination with the other Departments, such as construction or survey.
- Assist other departments within Technical Services (i.e. GIS, Drafting, Engineering Design, and Development Services) and outside the Department (i.e. Communications, Supplier Diversity and Outreach) to gain exposure to other engineering related activities needed to facilitate the execution of various public utility projects.
Intern will also have exposure to public utility projects in construction.
QUALIFICATIONS
College student pursuing a BS in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering, water/wastewater focus preferred or pursuing a BS degree in Construction Management. Recent graduates also invited to apply. Computer skills including Auto Cad, Microsoft Access, Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
