Job Title: CNC Machinist Intern
Job Type: Non-Exempt
Report to: CNC Lead
Summary:
The CNC Machinist Intern is responsible for producing machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computerized numerical control (CNC) machine, maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, and maintaining equipment and supplies while following company policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret machining blueprints
- Set up and operate precision equipment needed to manufacture parts using work orders, travelers, blueprints, engineering plans, specifications, or drawings
- Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
- Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushing, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices, tramming heads
- Loads stock into position
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and same work pieces; use measuring devices like calipers to ensure specifications are met
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to all company safety policies and procedures
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
- Use forklift as needed
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
- All other duties assigned
Required Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
0-1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Time Management
- Problem Solving Skills
- Strong understanding of basic mathematics
Ability to:
- Read blueprints
- Read measuring devices (Tape Measures, etc.)
- Work alone with little to no direction
- Use proper personal protective equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Certification/Diploma from technical college
