JOB TITLE: CNC Machinist
REPORTS TO
Tool Room Supervisor
PURPOSE OF JOB:
Set up and operate tool room precision machining, measuring, and inspection equipment. Fabricate, repair, and modify components for manufacturing, engineering, and research and development. Assist in the development and introduction of new processes and equipment into manufacturing operations. Assist manufacturing personnel in the setup, operation, and training of equipment.
JOB/OPERATION ELEMENTS
Essential Job Duties:
- Setup, and operate all of the tool room precision machining, measuring, and inspection equipment.
- Use inspection tools like microscopes, calipers, micrometers, comparator and pin gages.
- Use and apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures to fabricate, repair and modify components tooling, fixture for manufacturing, engineering, and research and development.
- Assist in the development and introduction of new processes and equipment into the manufacturing departments.
- Work with engineering to improve components and/or equipment for existent manufacturing processes.
- Assist manufacturing personnel in the setup and operation of tool room equipment that is required for some production jobs.
- Fabricate machines, tooling, and fixtures’ parts as directed by tool room work orders and tool room supervisor.
- Maintain an inventory of the following:
- Grinding wheels
- Swaging die blanks.
- Forming die blanks.
- Molding pinch off blanks.
- Cutting tools.
- Ball Welding Insert blanks
- Machining tools – cutters, reamers, drill bits, etc.
· Stock properly labeled raw materials.
· Assist with special engineering, manufacturing and R&D projects.
· Assist facilities and production as directed by the tool room supervisor.
· Ability to stand throughout and eight hour shift.
· Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Basic understanding of G codes used for CNC controlled Machining Centers
Familiarity with Wire EDM and other EDM machining equipment.
Ability to fabricate/make tight tolerance components such as die sets.
Familiar with Geometric tolerances.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma, GED.
Technical schooling preferred
EXPERIENCE:
3 to 5 years manufacturing machinist experience. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques in order to maximize the effectiveness of manufacturing.
