Job Title: CNC Machine Operator
Department: Milling & Lathe
Summary Sets up and operates numerical control machines or machining centers to perform various machine functions such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, turning, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic workpieces by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Set up, create with assistance if needed, edit, check routine programs and operate automatic numerically controlled machine tools to perform standard or repetitive sequences of operations to meet close tolerance and finish requirements.Operations to include boring, milling, turning, recessing, occasional profiling or contouring, etc. involving recognized tool and fixture applications and proven program format.Work from instructions defining in detail tooling applications and coding, fixture and machine arrangements and console settings. Mount and secure tooling in rack, magazine or turret; align and secure fixtures, platens and work piece and check to establish reference points. Set stops and machine travel.Upload program from MasterCam to machine control and use Renishaw probing to generate tool offsets and part position in machine.Manually cycle machine to check tooling, fixture and/or work alignment, clearances, stops, etc. to program specifications, make adjustments to bring tolerances and finish requirements to specifications.Note and report variation in program sequence, positioning, etc. Under supervision, assist with prove-out of programs for new work or critical variations.May recommend tooling arrangements, fixtures, operation sequence, etc.May make setups for and instruct Machine Operators of lower classification for previously proven programs.Work from part drawings and specifications.Use a variety of precision measuring instruments.
Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to read and understand blueprints, specifications and routings.
Requires a general knowledge of machine shop practices and techniques, machine operation and tooling, as acquired through experience plus additional training on numerically controlled machine tools and operations.General knowledge of manual machine operation is required.Tooling requirements per Employee Handbook. All position requirements must be met.All work is to be done in accordance with established OSHA and industry safety standards. Work is subject to final inspection.
