Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides total care or helps residents by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs and providing comfort. The CNA implements specific procedures and programs and coordinates work both within the department and with other departments. The CNA reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, responds to inquiries or requests for information, and helps the immediate supervisor with tasks to support departmental operations.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, Nursing Assistant training, and current certification in good standing on the New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry. Candidates must follow the dietary laws for providing a Kosher environment and have a genuine desire to help others.

Responsibilities
- Provides total care or helps residents with elimination needs, including toileting, by offering bed pan, urinal, or taking to bathroom; keeping incontinent residents clean at all times; changing linens as often as necessary; and helping with ambulation, transferring, or positioning by using assistive devices such as walker, wheelchair, Hoyer lift, gait belt, or lift sheets
- Provides total care or helps residents with bed bath, tub bath, or shower; dental, hair, and nail care; shaving; dressing; undressing; and application of makeup
- Makes resident’s beds, sets room in order, assists and encourages residents with self-help measures and activities, answers call lights promptly, and immediately responds to needs of resident
- Helps with and/or performs procedures with proper instruction and supervision, such as: admitting, transferring, and discharging residents; taking and recording vital signs; measuring and recording intake and output; collecting specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum; emptying drainage bottles; applying hot and cold compresses; etc.
- Helps with and/or performs procedures with proper instruction and supervision, such as: caring for patients in isolation; providing exercise and massage; helping with dying and dead; ensuring that safety devices are in use and safety precautions are followed; ensuring that room temperature and humidity are compatible with resident’s needs; and helping nurses give treatments and examine patients
- Maintains resident body positioning and alignment both in and out of bed, performing passive range of motion exercises and teaching the resident to perform active range of motion exercise
- Encourages and helps bedfast residents to change position at least two hours per day and night to stimulate circulation and prevent decubitus ulcers, contractures, and other deformities
- Performs personal services for residents within reason, such as: reading to them, writing letters for them, operating TV/radio, helping with recreational and occupational therapy projects in their rooms, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Nursing Assistant training and current certification in good standing on the New Jersey Nurse Aide Registry
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Must demonstrate dependability and punctuality by reporting to work on time as scheduled
- Must be willing and able to maintain and ensure compliance with current requirements, including all state and federal regulations, including OSHA safety protocol and standards
- Must be able to complete annual mandatory education/in-service requirements
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude while providing quality services to residents, family members, visitors, and co-workers
- Must be willing and able to follow the resident rights/abuse policies and procedures and established incident reporting procedures
- Must be willing and able to keep resident and facility information confidential by following all HIPAA guidelines and facility policies
- Must be willing and able to follow the dietary laws for providing a Kosher environment
- Must be willing and able to perform all duties to ensure resident and personal safety and the safety of co-workers and facility property
