Full-time, 72 hours per pay period, Day Shift

Job Objectives:
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assist nursing care team members with the delivery and accomplishment of patient/care services. Will float to all hospital units.

Responsibilities:- Takes and records patient's vital signs.
- Promptly completes personal care of patients.
- Delivers meal trays to patients.
- Assists patients with ambulation.
- Assists with lifting, moving, transporting and discharging patients.
- Promptly responds to patient calls.
- Serves as messenger to obtain/deliver necessary supplies/equipment/specimens.
- Observes and reports any significant changes in patient's condition to nursing staff.
- Helps maintain clean and orderly patient and work area environments.
- Restocks patient and unit supplies.
- NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned.
- HEALTH/SAFETY/COMPETENCE: Cannot pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others. Must provide safe, efficient, competent care to customer or patient population assigned. Must demonstrate competency of the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum, skills lists and/or standards.
- Removes medications from the delivery system and promptly gives to the appropriate nursing staff.
Education/Knowledge/Skills:
Must have a high school diploma or an equivalent certificate (GED). Must have successfully completed a hospital-approved formal training program or equivalent. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computations. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants. Must exhibit basic knowledge of setting up and maintaining traction. For staff involved in the care of age-specific groups, knowledge of the bio-psychosocial needs of adult, geriatric and pediatric patients is essential. Special knowledge is required in growth and development needs of pediatric/geriatric patients where applicable.
Experience:
Must have work experience as a nursing assistant or must have completed at least one semester of clinical and class work in an approved nursing program. One year experience required.
Licensure/Certifications:
Must be certified and registered with the State of Tennessee, Division of Health Care Facilities, as a Nurse Aide upon initial placement into a CNA position. Must be currently certified and registered as above when placed into a CNA position after working in a non-CNA position for more than one (1) year. Must be currently certified (or scheduled for certification or recertification training according to department guidelines) in CPR/Provider C.
