Technology Delivery Services (TDS) at the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is at the forefront of security-focused IT operations. Our teams span Information Security, Planning, Application Development, HR & Payroll Development, Infrastructure, and Client Services, fostering an innovative and inclusive work environment.
Position Summary:
The UCOP Cloud Solutions team is expanding, seeking a proactive Cloud Operations Specialist to optimize and support AWS-hosted applications. This role is pivotal in migrating critical on-premises applications to AWS and developing AWS expertise within TDS. The ideal candidate will bring deep AWS knowledge, with experience in architecture, configuration, and optimization of business applications.
Key Responsibilities:
System Optimization: Ensure peak performance, tuning, and capacity planning across UCOP systems, recommending technology enhancements, standardizations, and cost optimizations.
Systems Design: Design or modify complex systems and processes, developing technical specifications and improving scalability, stability, efficiency, and security of AWS-hosted solutions.
Collaboration: Engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear communication and training on technical matters.
Technical Leadership: Apply industry best practices, policies, and procedures, potentially leading IT teams on multiple projects.
Experience:
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 8 years of experience in a related IT role.
Hands-on expertise in AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM), RedHat Linux administration, and business process analysis.
Ability to learn and apply new technical skills rapidly, with strong communication skills across all organizational levels.
Skills and Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools like Terraform, monitoring tools like Datadog, and configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible).
Education and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate or Professional, SysOps Administrator Associate) preferred.
