About the Job
Assist the coordinators and director in Clinical Research activities which consist of patient work up, phlebotomy, process and shipping of labs and working within the study database to enter clinical study data. Assisting the coordinator in duties that will help them be more efficient.

Responsibilities:- Train and have a good understanding of the clinical trials you are assigned to and your role and duties per the protocol.
- Cross train for other studies as a back up.
- Maintain study protocol changes.
- Work up pts including, perform EKG, and Vitals, and check medications.
- Perform protocol duties as assigned by study coordinator.
- Perform phlebotomy and lab work. Process and ship lab samples for research study patients according to protocol and lab manual.
- IATA Trained and Certified
- Data entry into study database for each study visit
- Answer queries and coordinate with the study nurse those that cannot be answered by assistant.
- Maintain inventory of lab kits for studies; monitor expiration
- Schedule appointments for coordinators.
- Send out certified letters to patients and physicians; make reminder appointment calls for coordinators.
- Copy HC and HH medical records.
- Prepare records by de-identifying to comply with HIPPA guidelines.
- Assist with monitor visits.
- Complete and keep track of study patients with patient Master log.
- Pre-screen potential study candidates using inclusion/exclusion criteria.
- Perform telephone and follow-up study visits and complete paperwork.
- Offsite storage - pack, ship and retrieve documents in storage and maintain storage records
- Maintains temperature logs.
- Distribute mail and faxes.
- Maintain medical and office supply inventory.
- Obtain Doctor Signatures as needed on study documents from Heart Center and HH.
- Answer main telephone line and retrieve voice mail.
- Make copies as needed for director and coordinators.
- Maintain investigational product accountability including receive, store, transport and destruct at end of study.
- Secure building at end of day.
- Flag study patients in EMR
- Sit with monitors and review study patients for source verification
- Maintain Patient board and direct Research physician for work flow.
- Attend research meeting.
- Create blank study charts
- Request records from offsite facilities
- Assist with other research duties as assigned by Research Director, or Assistant Team Leader
Education: High School graduate. Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year of lab, medical tech, surgical assistant, nursing assistant or clerk (cardiovascular preferred). Clinical Research experience preferred. Batchelor degree in lieu of experience will be considered.
Additional Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices as mandated by the FDA. Requires constant organizational skills. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Basic computer skills are a necessity. Experienced with Excel. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians and staff. Ability to communicate clearly. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions in order to maintain a safe working environment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Knowledge of the Research Department’s and The Heart Center’s policies and procedures.
