Job Summary
The Department of Psychiatry at the Huntsman Mental Health Institute ( HMHI ) seeks a Clinical Research Manager whose responsibilities include developing and facilitating the overall grant processes for clinically focused research projects and facilitating post-award grant processes for clinical and non-clinical grants for the Institute. The incumbent will be a key team member with an opportunity to significantly influence and build research administration operations and processes at HMHI .
Clinical trial-focused responsibilities include: Planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling aspects pertaining to clinical trial functions of the Institute including (but not limited to) study-budget development, analysis, and negotiation; contract review and negotiation; compliance; and infrastructure development and oversight. The incumbent will partner with faculty and staff involved in clinical trials and will be responsible for providing and managing effective support and alignment with key resources for the Institute’s clinical trial portfolio. The incumbent will act as a catalyst between the Institute and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care and increase the clinical trial portfolio.
Post-award responsibilities include: Facilitating post-award grant processes for HMHI ; coordinating cross-departmentally to research, prepare, finalize, and submit progress and financial reports, and follow-up on grants; maintaining records and communicating with funders; reviewing contracts/awards; supporting set-up and close-out; supporting compliance; preparing budget and contract amendments; facilitating contract execution; and supporting faculty in other areas of post-award as needed to reduce administrative burden.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
1. Oversees processes for clinical trials, which include development and compliance.
2. Performs post-award processes for assigned grants.
3. Develops and implements procedures in research administration that are consistent with University of Utah’s policies.
4. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
5. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints, concerns, and suggestions, and providing appropriate follow-through.
6. Ensures competency of department research faculty and staff through the development and presentation of educational programs.
7. Builds and maintains relationships with sponsors, investigators, and research staff.
8. Leads or supports research faculty in clinical trial negotiation and management.
9. Develops structures and pathways for effective clinical trial operations at HMHI and with partners.
10. May include supporting the preparation of study-related documentation.
11. Ensures department-level clinical trial compliance with regulations, best practices, and overall research objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
