About the Job
The Benderson Family Heart Center at Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Clinical Research Manager (CRM) to oversee daily operations of two (2) research programs:
- The International Quality Improvement Collaborative (IQIC): Improving Care in Low and Middle-Income Countries (https://iqic.chboston.org) includes a network of over 50 pediatric cardiac centers in countries around the globe.
- The Benderson Family Congenital Heart Valve Center optimizes treatments for congenital cardiac surgery, with the goal to reduce complications, improve surgical techniques, and valve function.
This Clinical Research Manager I – IQIC and Congenital Heart Valve Center (Cardiology/Cardiovascular Surgery) will be responsible for:
- Leads and manages the work of multiple clinical research trials/studies/databases and/or multiple research programs including: Regulatory submissions and maintenance; Trial/Study set-up (protocol binders, coordination of legal contracts & agreements); Participant selection (screening, recruiting, consenting); Database design & maintenance; Data collection/audit; Equipment and materials management; Coordination of study visits; Data Analysis (analysis file creation, statistical analyses, report generation); & Dissemination of results (preparation for presentations, posters, journal publications).
- Develops and oversees the implementation of best practice guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for maintaining data quality & research infrastructure across various types of clinical research protocols (trials, studies, registries).
- Collaborates and consults with PI, study teams, & study stakeholders on the design, development, & conduct of clinical research trials (Phase I/II), studies, & programs.
- Collaborates with PI and other scientific staff in financial sustainability activities: developing & writing grants & research proposals; seeking philanthropic support.
- Manages communication between study staff & internal and external stakeholders. Organizes and facilitates internal team meetings & external stakeholder meetings.
- Hires, trains, and manages research staff and conducts Performance Management process. As needed, develops and oversees program-specific on-boarding. As needed, identifies & manages interns & medical students.
- Monitors program budget, maintains financial records, establishes and maintains research billing schedule, & ensures compliance with hospital and governmental regulations.
- For IQIC specifically, plans and implements educational offerings & bi-annual learning sessions.
To qualify, you must have:
- A Bachelor's degree and 6 years of research and/or clinical experience. Master’s degree in Public Health, Global Health, or a closely related field & 4 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- The ability to supervise & train staff, & possess aptitude for budget management.
- Strong interpersonal communication & effective problem-solving skills are required.
- Knowledge of basic QI tools and control charts preferred.
- The analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
- Must have advanced writing skills
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). Working knowledge of EPIC & EDC applications desired.
- Demonstrated interest and proficiency in data visualization software or a willingness to learn & apply these techniques to support ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
