About the Job
SUMMARY
This position is located in the Research and Development Service of the VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) in Portland, Oregon. Our team requires a dedicated Research Assistant to take primary responsibility for multiple aspects of human subjects research with Veteran patients. Current research includes prostate, bladder, hematologic and skin cancer clinical trials, which involve prospective and retrospective data collection. The position will work directly with experienced research coordinators
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES other duties as assigned include: screening and enrolling patients into complex research studies; auditing data and reconciling against source material data entry and cleaning.
JOB DUTIES
Accurately screening patients for participation eligibility
Coordinating research activities with veteran research subjects
Documenting source materials
Auditing data and reconciling against source material
Data entry
Data cleaning
Regulatory paperwork
Collection and shipping of research specimens
One-on-one communication with veterans with or at risk for cancer.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required:
Bachelor's degree in a social or biological science
Additional preferred experience:
Study recruitment
Interviews with human subjects
Strong research experience, either academic or professional
Commitment to providing quality customer service to subjects
LANGUAGE SKILLS
English language proficiency is required. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Statistical knowledge
COMPUTER SKILLS
Experience with database software such as Access or Excel
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong electronic communication skills - email and chat.

LOCATION and ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Primary job location is located on the VA Portland Health Care System campus
