Description
Position Summary Establishes a comprehensive and dynamic pharmacy service in area of specialization, e.g., critical care, internal medicine/transitions of care, infectious disease, to include using evidence-based medicine to develop and implement policies and procedures, providing pharmaceutical expertise and education for patients and providers, monitoring pharmaceutical patient care needs, providing drug information to healthcare professionals, and participating in multidisciplinary rounds. Responsible for related educational, research and patient care activities to enhance the facility pharmaceutical care services as delineated by the department. Provides supervision to pharmacy technicians while processing medication orders resulting in patients receiving safe and effective drug therapy. Experience 1 to 3 years� clinically relevant hospital pharmacy experience with successful completion of a PGY-1 residency or commensurate experience in the specialty area; PGY-2 residency preferred. |
Education Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited university. |
License and Credentials Required: Current New Jersey Pharmacist license; New Jersey Immunizing Pharmacist license within 6 months of hire; Board certification within 12 months of hire in the area of specialization, e.g., Critical Care-BCPS/BCCP/BCCCP; Infectious Disease-BCPS/BCIDP; BLS and ACLS certifications within 6 months of hire. Preferred: PALS certification |
Skills Good interpersonal skills; computer skills; excellent time management Work Schedule Weekdays (Monday-Friday); evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Occupational Hazards Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Risk B (low risk) exposure category. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used. Physical Requirements Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard). Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds. May require lifting and carrying light loads (e.g., boxes, equipment, unit dose cassettes, IV solutions) and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawer). Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) often necessary. Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.
