The County of Riverside's University Health System-Medical Center (RUHS-MC) has an opportunity for a Per DiemClinical Pharmacist position withRetail Pharmacy Services. This per diem position is non-benefitted, but has full-time, regularly scheduled hours. The pool generated from this posting will remain active for 90 days and may be used to fill future per diem vacancies.
I n addition to the minimum qualifications, ideal candidates will have:
- 2 years of Outpatient/Retail Pharmacy experience
- Excellent customer service and communications skills
- Experience in administering immunizations, MTM services
- Leadership experience
The Clinical Pharmacist - Per Diem is a professional level classification and reports to a Supervising Clinical Pharmacist. The Clinical Pharmacist - Per Diem oversees pharmacy workflow to ensure accurate, timely and safe dispensing and distribution of medications. Incumbents monitor drug therapy, adjust doses based on individual patient parameters, interface with the medical staff on issues related to drug therapy, and promote the cost effective and appropriate utilization of pharmaceuticals.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Function as a dispensing pharmacist in the Outpatient and/or Inpatient setting; provide answers to both distributive and clinical questions; compound prescriptions and special orders as needed; perform pharmacokinetic analysis of selected medications with narrow therapeutic ranges.
• Check in/out controlled substances correctly and maintain an accurate paper trail; review medication utilization of patients and monitor drug therapy when prescribed; review and check orders from clinics and other outside entities.
• Maintain controlled substance accountability; participate in the receipt, dispensing and distribution of controlled substances; ensure inventories are accurate; may practice in other non-distribution roles such as ambulatory and/or the inpatient units based on training, experience and need.
• Work with nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care; provide medication consultation to other healthcare providers and patients.
• Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures; prepare and conduct formal and informal presentations to healthcare providers; participate in training programs for other healthcare providers and performance improvement activities as required.
• Participate and maintain quality assurance records and assist in the maintenance of inventory.
• Work with members of the medical center to ensure a cooperative work environment and work on supervisory projects pertinent to the pharmacy area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education:Graduation from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD).
Experience: One year of pharmacy residency preferred.
OPTION II
Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in pharmacy.
Experience: Three years of professional level experience as a pharmacist in a hospital or healthcare facility.
ALL OPTIONS
License/Certificate:Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Licentiate in Pharmacy issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy and fulfillment of the continuing education requirements.
Preferred: Specialty board certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) in any specialty and/or Advanced Practice Pharmacist licensure issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
Possession of a current and maintained Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge of: Federal, Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, and DHS laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to patient care and dispensing of legend and non-legend pharmaceuticals and poisons; good customer (physicians, nurses and patient) service; professional standards and practices.
Ability to:Provide quality pharmaceutical care; communicate clearly and effectively; work cooperatively with other staff and healthcare providers; organize, and manage routine and new responsibilities; retrieve and process patient and medication information; properly supervise and direct the work of supportive pharmacy personnel.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Condition of Employment
In accordance with the California Department of Public Health Order dated August 5, 2021, and amended December 22, 2021, health care facility workers who work in indoor settings where care is provided to patients or where patients have access for any purpose must be vaccinated against COVID-19 as follows: first dose of a one-dose regimen or second dose of a two-dose regimen, by September 30, 2021. Effective March 1, 2022, all healthcare facility workers must have their booster, obtain the booster within 15 days of becoming eligible for one, or a declination form on file for the booster. Consideration may be given to candidates who are in the process of completing their vaccination regimen.
The Order allows for workers to be exempt from the vaccination requirements by providing the facility with a declination form signed by the individual stating either of the following: (1) the worker is declining vaccination based on Religious Beliefs; or (2) the worker is excused from receiving any COVID-19 vaccine due to Qualifying Medical Reasons. Workers who are exempted from the vaccination requirements must observe all other infection control requirements, including face coverings and regular COVID testing at the frequency required by their work site.
A requirement of employment is to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or a completed COVID-19 Vaccination Declination form (filled out by the candidate and their medical provider as appropriate), during the pre-employment process. Failure to submit the required documentation may render a candidate ineligible to move forward in the process.

Pre-Employment

Per Diem employees participate in the 401(a) Temporary and Part-Time Employees' Retirement Plan and are required to contribute 3.75% of salary to the pension plan. The County contributes a matching amount.
