Position Overview:
Monitors, assesses, organizes and coordinates the daily activities of co-workers to ensure a smooth and continuous Laboratory workflow overall, or within an assigned area. Duties routinely include staff scheduling, arranging coverage for staff absences, assigning work, prioritizing work, directing problem-solving and trouble-shooting, ensuring shift-to-shift continuity, and managing customer complaints or inquiries. Plays a lead role in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and enhance the safety and reliability of testing. Trains and assesses the competency of co-workers. Provides guidance and direction to staff, enabling the accurate, timely and efficient completion of instrument maintenance, quality control, non-conforming event management and records management. Provides constructive feedback and recognition to peers, reinforcing Sutter's values and focusing the team's efforts on providing safe, reliable care. Serves as the liaison between Clinical Laboratory Manager and staff, physicians, patients, family and other hospital staff, leading communication huddles and other structured team meetings (e.g. Daily Engagement). Routinely performs all duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, in one or more areas of the Laboratory. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure patient privacy and maintain the highest level of safety and reliability in testing.

COORDINATES and ORGANIZES WORK of TEAM

EDUCATION
_Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma._
Bachelor's: degree in biology or related science
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
CLSL-Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
8 years experience as a CLS Generalist.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated knowledge and technical competence in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more assigned clinical specialty areas; examples: Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis and Transfusion Service. Also competent in monitoring, assessing, organizing coordinating and prioritizing workflow, training, assessing competency, providing direction to co-workers, escalating issues appropriately and complex operational problem-solving in real-time.
Ability to provide constructive feedback and recognition to peers, reinforcing Sutter's values and focusing team's efforts on providing safe, reliable care.
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for self and team, completing work within expected timeframes.
Ability to guide team to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks. Demonstrates sound judgment and problem solving relevant to own duties and duties of the team.
Ability to compassionately and effectively interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors
Workflow Management: Ability to organize and coordinate a team response to:
1) Fluctuations in volume;
2) Unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information systems failure;
3) Shift-to-shift hand-offs;
4) STAT test orders;
5) Specimen integrity issues
6) Regular review of pending logs, priority assignments, etc.
Ability to guide team to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.
Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.

_The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location.
