Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Transfusion Services

Location: San Francisco, CA

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Scientist with a strong background in Transfusion Services to join our partner medical center in San Francisco, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and skilled professional to contribute to a critical area of healthcare, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of blood products to patients in need.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform clinical laboratory testing in the Transfusion Service department, including blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and identification.
• Select and crossmatch blood for complex cases, including sensitized or problematic recipients.
• Conduct antibody identification and titer testing.
• Investigate and follow up on transfusion reactions, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
• Perform quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Demonstrate expertise in the transfusion needs of neonatal patients.
• Utilize hospital and laboratory information systems, including electronic health records.
• Operate and maintain automated laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field.
• Valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or a limited license in Immunohematology.
• At least two years of experience in a Blood Bank or Transfusion Service in a high-volume lab within the past five years.
• Recent experience performing clinical lab testing in Transfusion Service.
• Strong understanding of transfusion medicine principles and practices.
• Proficiency in performing testing on automated platforms.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work night shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
• Experience with blood bank information systems and electronic health records.
