Job DescriptionThe Clinical Lab Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Clinical Lab Assistant performs phlebotomy, technical, and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties and responsibilities of a phlebotomist.
- Skillfully collects blood specimens from patients in accordance with policies and procedures. Practices age-specific approaches in carrying out responsibilities.
- Reviews and resolves error messages and cancellation requests in a timely, appropriate manner.
- Maintains current knowledge of LIS and other related computer systems and equipment.
- Assures that phlebotomy supplies are maintained and adequately stocked and rotated to prevent inadvertent usage of expired supplies and/or waste.
- Performs a variety of clinical lab processing, administrative and technical functions which include but are not limited to Requisition Entry, and triaging calls from providers for Referred Testing matters.
- Processes specimens of blood, urine and other body fluids according to established procedures, including specimen receipt, microbiology processing and anatomical pathology send out testing.
- Operates the pneumonic tube system.
- Appropriately prioritizes STAT, Timed, and routine specimens
- Prepares specimens for testing and/or sending to a reference lab.
- Analyses, evaluates and reports waived and moderately complex laboratory testing.
- Annually attends mandatory hospital and laboratory safety education reviews.

QualificationsEducation:
High school graduate. Successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program and ASCP certification or equivalent. Knowledge of phlebotomy and safety standards required. Bachelor of Science degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital laboratory. A strong background in medical laboratory and/or knowledge of medical terminology. Strong background in patient centered customer service and professional affiliation with physician
