Responsibilities:
The Biomed Specialist ensures biomedical equipment is maintained in a high state of reliability. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, new equipment installations, testing, calibrations and repairs to all biomedical equipment following manufacturer's recommendations. Equipment includes, but is not limited to; surgical, patient monitoring, life support and resuscitation devices. Responsible for maintaining an accurate work history of all medical equipment service.
Accountabilities
1. Prioritizes equipment repairs, preventative maintenance (PM’s) and service calls to ensure high customer satisfaction. Exercises good judgment when communicating with peers and staff. Effectively manages productive time on a daily basis to ensure PM’s and critical repairs are completed in a timely manner.
2. Demonstrates initiative and is a self-starter. Takes ownership of assigned equipment and service calls and documents minimum of 90% of productive hours to ensure an accurate total cost of ownership for all medical equipment.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of electronic theory, computer hardware and software including network fundamentals by efficiently completing equipment repairs and resolving network issues.
4. Demonstrates logical troubleshooting skills and ability to read and comprehend schematics, block diagrams and technical manuals. Demonstrates familiarity with a variety of test equipment including but not limited to digital multimeters, network analyzer, and electrical safety analyzer.
5. Instructs Biomed and other equipment technical staff on testing, operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of medical equipment. May serve as technical resource to the department.
6. Completes assigned life support and non-life support equipment PM’s within the month PM is due.
7. Accurately populates fields in equipment database records as directed by department policy including HIPAA requirements, PM interval, PM procedures, PM assignments, cost and network data for incoming equipment.
8. Maintains accurate inventory records by ensuring CM work orders have following fields populated when submitting a request for a purchase order including asset numbers, cost center, time charges, materials cost and WO comments. Receives parts and notifies Buyer as needed to allow invoices to be paid in a timely manner.
9. Coordinates and facilitates projects with various vendors/departments and verifies equipment operation at project completion. Installs OEM approved patches and anti-virus updates as needed.
10. Demonstrates a high degree of teamwork by completing equipment PM’s as needed to ensure department meets monthly EOC goals. Demonstrates understanding of safety policies and procedures and familiarization of The Joint Commission.
11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
- One of the following is required
- Associate's Degree in Electronics, Engineering, Electrical Systems technology, Physics or a directly related field
- Completion of the US Military Biomedical Technician (BMET) program
Experience
- One of the following is required
- 2 years of experience as a Biomedical Technician or as an Electronics Technician
- 4 years of Biomedical Electronics Technician experience or directly related electronics experience may be substituted for Associate’s Degree or US Military Biomedical Technician program requirement
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Systems technology, Physics or directly related field may be substituted for Associate’s Degree / US Military Biomedical Technician program and experience requirement
