Job Summary:
Is a Registered Nurse with knowledge and experience in pediatric nursing and one who promotes the delivery of quality care through education via various methods. Collaborates closely with the Education Administrative Assistant, Executive Director of Inpatient Operations, Manager of Inpatient Operations, and Assistant Clinical Managers in the planning of the education process for nursing staff.
Essential Clinical Educator Job Functions:
- Functions as a teacher and role model for nursing staff
- Demonstrates excellent clinical skills in nursing practices.
- Participates in the learning activities as a preceptor of orientees based on the orientee’s needs.
- Assesses the clinical needs of all nursing staff.
- Teaches and monitors the effectiveness of special educational programs/in-services in collaboration with the Education Admin., Manager of Inpatient Operations, Assistant Clinical Managers, and Executive Director of Inpatient Operations.
- Accepts patient assignments with an identified staff member as a preceptor.
- Provide feedback on the staff’s clinical needs to Assistant Clinical Managers and Manager of Inpatient Operations.
- Maintains clinical expertise:
- Reviewing and disseminating current information on trends in pediatric nursing.
- Working collaboratively with members of the Educational Department and Patient Education Committee to ensure appropriate teaching materials are available for family and staff.
- Coordinates with the Educational Administrative Assistant and conducts preceptor training/mentoring sessions for staff.
- Participates in data collection for quality management as it relates to patient care.
- Practice and promote effective communication:
- Collaborates with Patient Managers and other departments to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
- Interprets hospital and patient care policy efficiently to staff.
- Accepts membership on committees as a representative for clinical inpatient staff.
- Actively participates in Nursing Management and Nursing Council meetings.
- Maintains required job skills and professional competencies.
- Attends required educational sessions.
- Member of professional organizations.
- Attends a minimum of six non-required education sessions per year.
- A graduate of an approved school of professional nursing is required. BSN preferred.
- Three years of experience in pediatrics is required. Clinical Educator experience preferred.
- Currently licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois required.
- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in pediatric nursing.
- Can function as an exceptional role model to staff. Is familiar with policies of regulatory agencies: JCAHO, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). Ability to establish priorities and possess independent decision-making capabilities.
- CPR Required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross will be accepted.

Compensation Information:
Pay Range: $74,613.28 - $119,381.24
