Clinical Counselor/Prevention Specialist - High Point University

High Point is currently seeking a full-time Clinical Counselor/ Prevention Specialist. The Clinical Counselor/Prevention Specialist position provides for both clinical needs and support for the development and implementation of pertinent groups, awareness, and prevention and outreach programs for High Point University students on topics pertaining to critical issues in college mental health. Topics may include suicide prevention, sexual assault prevention, substance use, addiction, and recovery awareness, along with targeted work with high-risk student populations. Skills in data collection and analysis of community trends to improve Wellness Education efforts will be important for the successful candidate. The candidate for this position provides clinical counseling services for High Point University students including individual and group therapy, consultation, triage, and serves on rotation for on-call services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work required

Experience and Training:
• Board Licensed in respective field
• Must adhere to all ethical and legal standards
• Must maintain personal individual professional liability coverage
• Clinical experience in Higher Education and College Mental Health preferred
• Experience in the field of prevention education, related experience desired

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
• Knowledge of broad range of individual and group counseling theories and methods
• Presentation and teaching skills
• Knowledge of young adult development
• Crisis intervention skills
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to participate in clinical on-call rotation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Effectively utilizes electronic health record system, Titanium, for all clinical documentation
• Participates in a 24-hour on-call rotation with other clinical staff for students with mental health emergencies
• Plans, organizes, and coordinates prevention activities and presentations, including trainings, workshops, conferences, luncheons, grant writing, and awareness events.
• Develops, implements, and assesses campus prevention programs.
• Designs, executes and evaluates outreach efforts supportive of the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Regulations in conjunction with the Addictions Specialist.
• Gathers information and analyze data for the purpose of evaluating and adjusting programs in accordance with funding program requirements.
• Provides appropriate screenings for students on a range of topics including but not limited to disordered eating, depression, anxiety, relationship violence, stalking, addiction, stress reduction, and substance use.
• Increases awareness of college mental health through collaborative prevention programming and workshops with other departments, including but not limited to Residence Life, Student Conduct, Athletics, Multicultural Affairs, Accessibility Services, Title IX, Student Engagement, Student Health Services, and Fraternity and Sorority Life.
• Supports developmental education, as a part of the overall responsibility of the Division of Student Life
• Aids students in exploring all their options when considering a Leave of Absence or Withdrawal from the University
• Creates targeted prevention efforts with high-risk populations
• Supports a community referral system for students
• Supports training and consultation for students and faculty as it relates to prevention issues
• Supports wellness activities and oversee Peers Addressing Wellness & Safety volunteer team
• Maintains positive work atmosphere by engaging in effective behaviors and communications with students, parents, staff/faculty, colleagues, and supervisors
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Counseling Services and/or the Assistant Vice President of Student Services

ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Position reports to the Executive Director of Counseling Services
• Clinician adheres to the ethical standards outlined by the American Counseling Association and respective Boards, as well as all State and Federal mental health laws
• Supports the academic and Student Life Mission – ultimate student success – by providing effective and confidential counseling services and prevention education and outreach
