We are looking for an energized, caring, mission-oriented Certified Recovery Specialist to provide supportive services to enhance recovery for this special population of patients by providing services in the following areas:
- Direct Outreach
- Peer-based Recovery Support
- Mentoring in all stages of recovery.
CRS assists participants in gaining access to needed resources in the community, while assisting them in overcoming barriers and helping bridge gaps between their needs and available resources. Services are made available to participants at all stage of their recovery process, including with those who are not yet engaged in treatment or other services.
CRS services enhance the service continuum by offering ongoing supports and assistnace promoting & encouraging long-term recovery.
CRS works closely with program participants before, during and after their treatment experiences to support and assist them in their recovery, in learning how to both understand and navigate various care systems and connecting to other service systems.
Role and Responsibilities
CRS provides coaching and encouragement to individuals contemplating or actively seeking help with substance-use recovery by providing peer-based recovery support.

- Supports and teaches recovery and recovery tools and models personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness.
- Engage in relationship building and active listening with an awareness of addictive behaviors to establish a non-judgmental rapport with individuals.
- In partnership with each participant develops the recovery plan and his/her support system in order to support him/her in achieving / maintaining a clean and sober lifestyle.
- Supports participants in the self-management of critical or crisis situations.
- Supports participants in coordinating with or in choosing his/her significant and relevant supports in order to arrange services or resources to achieve his/her goals.
- Conducts self in ethical manner by adhering to the PCACB code of ethics and uses knowledge, skills, and training from Certified Recovery Specialist training to model, coach, support, and advocate with participants.
- Utilize techniques to engage and encourage the individual to self-disclose so that he/she can identify and prioritize individual strengths and needs.
- Assist individuals in linking with appropriate community resources to support the individual's personal interests and goals.
- Models personal responsibility, respectful relationships, and the enduring hope that everyone can recover.
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum of a High School diploma (or GED/equivalent)
- Credentialed as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS), or eligible to earn CRS credential within 3 months of hire,
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a behavioral health work environment.
- Must possess the drive and integrity to be able to work independently and resolve complex issues.
- Excellent interactive, interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and customer-service skills,
- Consistently functions as a positive team member.
- Highly self-motivated and reliable, with a strong work ethic.
- Highly organized and maintains a strong attention to detail.
- History of maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Experience using judgement and discretion to appropriately escalate issues in a timely manner.
- Complies with all EMC's policies and procedures.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and use a PC/keyboard and to effectively communicate both in person and via phone calls.
- Able to appropriately and professionally deal with stressful environments and conflicts.
- Ability to create, read and send e-mail through Google.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word / Excel) and Google drive systems.
- Minimal travel within Philadelphia is required.
