Job Title: Clinical Applications Analyst – Altera TouchWorks with HL7 experience

Position Overview:

The experienced Clinical Applications Analyst is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and developing clinical Meditech application tools to meet customer needs; support project implementation activity; document requirements and define scope and objectives. The Analyst’s primary goal is to support our clients with system break/fixes, system changes and enhancements, and ongoing system maintenance, which can include system testing, troubleshooting, and issue management. Provide technical application(s) support across multiple environments with a primary focus on Altera (formerly Allscripts) TouchWorks EHR and integrated 3^rd party applications, technologies and interfaces. Strong communication and teamwork skills are required. This position works under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and support the Altera (formerly Allscripts) TouchWorks EHR and supporting functionality.


• Maintenance and support of the 3^rd party or other integrated technologies including but not limited to Intellidose


• Analyze and understand complex healthcare integration requirements, particularly with Altera TouchWorks EHR


• Develop, maintain and support HL7 interfaces to support integration with a variety of healthcare systems, adhering to industry best practices and standards.


• Design and document interface specifications, mappings, and technical documentation for Altera TouchWorks interfaces.


• Troubleshoot and resolve interface-related issues, ensuring seamless data flow across systems.


• Provide end-user support for TouchWorks EHR applications and systems.


• Review, schedule, test, implement and document any system modifications, upgrades or application changes.


• Troubleshoot system issues to resolution and provide timely and high-quality customer service.


• Escalate issues to vendor as needed and monitor vendor tickets for resolution.


• Provide after-hours “on-call” support to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.


• Work with client users and functional teams as needed.


• Adheres to change management process for break fix and any system changes.


• Performs system testing to ensure that all product functions work as designed.


• Assist in documenting detailed description of user needs, program functions and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.


• Documents all build activities in conjunction with updating vendor provided applications specifications and perform integration and unit testing; adhere to version control processes.


• Experience collecting user requirements, translating to system feature enhancements, and requesting enhancements of a system administrator.


• Ability to evaluate and analyze EHR features and functionality for problem resolution.


• Provide support for the correct operational and clinical processes aligned with client’s best practices.


• May exercise independent judgment to determine the appropriate course of action to be taken based on the analysis performed and all possible solutions.


• Successfully engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.


• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes a favorable working relationship with customers, clients, co-workers and management.


• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• 3 to 5 years of experience with Altera TouchWorks EHR build, testing, maintenance and support.


• Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and implementing interfaces with Altera TouchWorks EHR.


• Strong knowledge of HL7 standards and healthcare system integration.


• Expertise in interface/integration technology concepts (e.g. HL7, APIs, databases, client-server, querying software and communications protocols).


• Familiarity with integration engines (e.g., Rhapsody, Mirth, Cloverleaf) is required.


• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.


• 5+ years of experience in SaaS implementation and support, with at least 2 years of experience in healthcare IT.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience maintaining and supporting Intellidose as well as troubleshooting and resolving interface issues.


• Experience in SQL and JavaScript is an asset.

Work Environment:

• The role may require occasional on-call support for urgent issues, with the flexibility to work in a healthcare setting with interdisciplinary teams.
