About the Role
The Sustainability team is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for researching climate transition issues to join their team. The individual will conduct climate-related research on companies and the marketplace broadly. Complete alignment and commitment to the firm’s sustainable investment philosophy will be critical. The position reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer.
About the Team
The Loomis Sayles Sustainability team works in partnership with the investment teams, analysts, legal team and distribution teams to provide sustainability integration, based on financial materiality in service of our fiduciary duty to our clients. We do this using our 4 integration themes: Research, Valuation, Engagement and Client Focus. Loomis Sayles provides custom solutions for our clients globally and the Sustainability Team works closely with various parts of the organization in providing solutions to our client sustainability-focused objectives. All members of the Sustainability Team are located in the Boston office.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of each investment team’s individual practices around the firmwide sustainable investing philosophy.
- Analyze the implications of climate transition across all asset classes, with a particular focus on energy industries, to generate new ideas applicable to each investment team’s approach.
- Engage in thought partnership with investment teams to understand and deliver accurate, timely and relevant climate data and information applicable to the investment process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative research analysis and insights for the benefit of our clients.
- Stay informed of latest developments and best practices in climate and transition research.
- Conduct comprehensive research on climate data, industry benchmarking, Carbon Accounting, SBTis, GhG Protocols, emission reporting and reduction methodology.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through written reports, hypothesis backed slides and data focused presentations.
- Collaborate with other Sustainability team members on various team projects.
- Understand the objectives of requests focused on industry/topic name and proactively suggest the most appropriate and efficient research approach to Chief Sustainability Officer, and investment teams, as appropriate.
- Evaluate our source quality and data accuracy, and proactively help to identify and raise research-related issues.
- Provide advanced synthesis, and develop deep expertise in specialized research tools, databases, and sources.
- Keen ability to apply practical, timely, and innovative research approaches in a fast-paced & deadline focused environment.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- BS degree required, MBA and CFA designation viewed favorably.
- 3-7 years experience in a research capacity at an asset manager with specialization in financially material climate transition including: mitigation, adaptation, physical risk implications for investment analysis.
- Experience with all aspects of financial statement analysis, modeling, and valuation; knowledge of sovereign analysis is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of sustainability data providers’ climate methodology.
- Strong investment acumen and analytical skills.
- Candidates must possess an innate curiosity, a demonstrated passion for investing and be aligned with our sustainability philosophy and process.
- A self-starter with the capacity to work independently; must also be able to work as part of a close team and take direction from Chief Sustainability Officer, portfolio managers and other investment professionals.
- Along with collecting, summarizing, and synthesizing relevant data and information into appropriate, concise, timely and highly effective output, you are proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Comfortable presenting to individuals in small and large group settings.
- Willingness to travel, both domestic and international.
