Our client, a premier international legal services firm, is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Business Development Manager (BDM) to join their Marketing and Business Development team. Position Overview:
The Business Development Manager will serve as the lead for two critical practice areas—Insurance and Labor/Employment Law. This role involves substantial responsibilities in proposal writing, RFP responses, and developing compelling pitches for both new and existing clients. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, be proficient with technology, and have the analytical skills needed to ask the right questions to create high-quality, error-free work.
You’ll collaborate closely with practice group leaders, attorneys, and administrative teams to ensure all business development projects align with client needs and firm goals. While the role is internally focused, you will be a vital resource for the firm’s internal teams, with a primary focus on knowledge management, proposal development, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Business Development Efforts: Act as the primary business development lead for the Insurance and Labor/Employment Law practice areas, helping secure high-value engagements through persuasive proposals and RFP responses.
- Proposal and Pitch Development: Oversee the end-to-end proposal and pitch process, ensuring that submissions meet deadlines and are customized to meet client needs.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with practice leaders, attorneys, and administrative teams to gather insights and data, informing effective business development strategies.
- Data and Market Analysis: Research companies, markets, and industries to create strategic pitches that position the firm competitively.
- Efficiency and Process Improvement: Proactively identify ways to improve proposal processes, enhancing both efficiency and quality to move from “good to great.”
Success Factors:
- Delivering high-quality, error-free proposals and RFPs.
- Consistently meeting or exceeding deadlines for business development initiatives.
- Building effective, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, including lawyers and practice group leaders.
- Creating efficiencies by improving existing processes and workflows.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5–7 years of business development experience with a focus on proposal and pitch development. Prior experience in legal services or large law firms is highly preferred.
- A strong, stable work history demonstrating reliability and commitment.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of CRM, experience management, and other relevant technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Analytics, or a related field; an MBA, J.D., or Master’s degree is a plus.
- Ability to work on-site in Tampa, New Orleans, or Houston, with occasional travel (up to 20%).
