About the Role:
Our client is looking for a dedicated and skilled Senior Virtualization Systems Administrator to join their Technical Services Team. In this role, you will play a vital part in implementing and maintaining application delivery systems utilizing VMware and Citrix virtualization technologies, as well as managing desktop deployment and testing in an EHR (Electronic Health Record) environment. This position requires strong expertise in integrating third-party hardware and software, supporting a seamless and secure user experience for clinical and business applications in a 24/7 critical care setting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and executing robust patch management strategies to safeguard patient and organizational data.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement and maintain application delivery systems leveraging VMware (ESX, vSphere, vMotion) and Citrix (XenServer, XenApp, XenDesktop) technologies, ensuring a reliable and high-performing user experience.
Manage desktop deployment images and conduct thorough application testing, including integration of third-party hardware/software in an EHR environment.
Design, support, and troubleshoot Active Directory, including management of group policies for secure and efficient user management.
Partner with the Engineering team to develop solutions that address complex technical challenges in a 24/7 operational environment.
Research and recommend new desktop management and operating systems to enhance efficiency and system security.
Install, maintain, and optimize Windows and Linux operating systems on both server and desktop virtual machines in line with industry standards.
Design and execute disaster recovery plans for high-availability applications, ensuring continuity in critical environments.
Document technical processes, create user-friendly guides, and provide cross-training to team members to standardize and replicate procedures across the Technical Services Team.
Develop and enforce security protocols through an effective patch management strategy, ensuring protection and compliance for clinical and business applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certifications:
Must hold a current certification in one of the following:
VMware (e.g., VCP-DCV, VCP-DTM, VCP 4 or higher)
Microsoft (e.g., MCSA, MCP, MCTS, Server 2003 or higher)
Citrix (e.g., CCA-V, CCA-N, XenApp 4.5 or later, XenDesktop 5 or later, XenServer 6 or later)
CompTIA Server+
Note: If the candidate lacks one of these certifications, they must pass an assessment test from Epic Computer Systems.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Successful completion of Epic Hyperspace Deployment training and certification is also required.
Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of experience maintaining complex IT infrastructure in a 24/7 environment.
Key Skills and Abilities:
In-depth understanding of virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions, with the ability to ensure a smooth end-user experience.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies and technical skills.
Strong communication skills to foster effective collaboration among team members, clients, and stakeholders.
Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for both virtualized and physical environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of application delivery technologies, including Citrix Unidesk, Ivanti AppSense, Microsoft SCCM, and Microsoft App-V.
Proficiency with VMware virtualization and Citrix management tools, including in-depth understanding of XenApp, XenDesktop, and XenServer.
Additional Information:
Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support to ensure continuity in a 24/7 operational environment.
Provide technical recommendations for continuous improvement and collaborate on system analysis to support application maintenance and upgrades.
Document and share best practices across the team, supporting consistent and reliable IT operations.
