About the Job
A Medical Records Clerk I processes and assembles medical record reports into a standardized sequence. The medical record serves as a communication link among care-givers, provides supporting documentation for reimbursement and is a legal document. Since the medical record is the final repository for all documentation of patient care, which is necessary for continuity of care, the Clerk I must ensure the accuracy, adequacy, and completeness of information by analysis, identification of deficiencies, subsequent assignment to appropriate hospital personnel/medical staff for completion and/or correction and verification that the medical record is complete and ready for filing. The Clerk I maintains and is responsible for the physician’s medical record completion area, the file area, the Meditech chart location system and individual workstations.
Responsibilities:QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. One to two years of college preferred.
- Previous clerical experience in a medical office in a hospital/physician/health care setting which relates to medical record processes preferred.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule as necessary to complete job functions.
- General knowledge of medical, hospital or other health-related office operations.
- Working knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
- Operating knowledge of basic business office machines, including computers.
- Ability to sequence information alphabetically and numerically.
- Ability to type 40 w.p.m.
- Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.
- Customer friendly, possesses a pleasing voice, pleasant personality, and acts in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people and have good telephone skills.
- Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 20 pounds. Crouching and prolonged sitting required. Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the day.
