About this position
Under the direction of the senior teacher, the classroom aide intern will serve as a helper at the assigned school site while enrolled in the Options for Learning pathway program, working toward attainment of the associate teacher permit.
What you'll be doing
- Maintaining enrollment in pathway program and completing required courses with a minimum grade of C to become eligible for the associate teacher permit;
- Attending child development classes facilitated by East Los Angeles College (ELAC) for four hours per week and completing approximately eight to 10 hours of homework per week;
- Assisting the senior teacher with supervision of children and classroom management;
- Assisting with providing a wide variety of experiences for children, with an emphasis on active learning;
- Assisting with providing a clean and sanitary facility (inside and out);
- Using sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with children, parents and staff;
- Working effectively with other team members;
- Actively participating in the annual in-service training;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Currently enrolled in a child development course OR agree to enroll in Options for Learning's Pathway Program to obtain an associate teacher permit;
- Current certification in pediatric CPR and pediatric first aid acceptable to Community Care Licensing (Health and Safety Code 1596.866), and to be renewed every two years; (can be completed upon offer/hire)
- Health screening and TB clearance, to be renewed every five years; (can be completed upon offer/hire)
- Must present proof of immunization for TDap, MMR, whooping cough, and yearly influenza (waiver may be accepted for influenza); (can be completed upon offer/hire)
- Must clear background screening; (can be completed upon offer/hire)
- Must complete mandated reporter certification training, to be renewed every two years;(can be completed upon offer/hire)
- A California driver's license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred);
- Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese (preferred);
- Ability to communicate in written and oral English correctly and effectively.
Job specifications
- Reports to the senior teacher;
- Non-exempt, regular, 6 to 12-month position (length of assignment will be dependent on sustained enrollment and completion of Pathway Program for attainment of associate teacher permit);
- Full-time with paid work hours to include on-the-job training, classroom time and homework (work schedule will vary depending on site or classroom assignment);
- Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization's contracts, or at the organization's discretion.
Salary
- $21.00 per hour
