This position is responsible for transporting deliveries locally in accordance with company guidelines and DOT regulations by performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
- Transports deliveries in a safe, responsible manner and in accordance with company procedures and applicable DOT regulations.
- Serves as a Company representative to all outside entities with which they will have contact.
- Applies knowledge and abilities to safely load and unload deliveries according to size of load and content description.
- Processes shipment documents neatly and efficiently for each load, and manages discrepancy documentation.
- Obtains and maintains proper delivery authorization and pickup documentation and submits in a timely manner.
- Provides excellent customer service and maintains a professional manner and appearance to enhance the company’s image with both internal and external customers.
- Performs a daily DOT pre-trip inspection, per guidelines given by Transportation Manager and DOT Compliance Manager, and keeps an accurate copy in the vehicle at all times.
- Maintains a daily, legible DOT log book and submits log books to Compliance as required.
- Out of state drivers must balance and handle an expense account for each trip by recording all expenses and maintaining all receipts, as needed.
- Provides basic maintenance for vehicle such as maintaining vehicle in a neat manner and performing minor repairs. Reports and schedules maintenance for larger mechanical issues to Company’s truck shop.
- Keeps vehicle cab clean, smoke-free and orderly.
- Maintains company gas credit cards, and valid/current proof of insurance and registration in vehicle.
- Ensures proper maintenance of vehicle and reports all accidents/damages/malfunctions to supervisor.
- Follow instructions given on load sheets and report any discrepancies on load paperwork to Dispatch for resolution.
- Able to work any shift assigned as hours and dates of delivery vary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Some high school required.
- Class A Driver License required.
- Clean driving record: no more than two points or DMV record.
- Minimum of 3 years commercial driving experience required.
Skills
- Good oral and written communication skills. Must be able to read and write in English in order to keep an accurate log book, inspection reports, maintenance reports, and accident/incident reports.
- Customer service oriented. Must be courteous and respectful in all situations.
- Strong time management skills. Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines.
- Attentive to detail and able to maintain records per described requirements.
- Flexible availability.
Physical Requirments
- Must be able to perform repetitive motion activities throughout the day.
- Requires getting into and out of the truck frequently.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 60 lbs on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work 10-12 hours per day, 5 days a week.
Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
- The employee will be regularly exposed to very dusty and noisy conditions.
- The employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- The employee may be required to work at heights.
- The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process
