We are on the hunt for an experienced Claims Attorney to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling a diverse portfolio of Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims. This role requires a deep understanding of insurance law, exceptional negotiation skills, and a knack for identifying and managing risk. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively managing and resolving complex claims, with a focus on Employment Practices Liability.
Responsibilities:
- Directly handle a portfolio of primary and excess Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims, involving matters such as wrongful termination, discrimination, and harassment.
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Negotiate claim settlements with insureds, claimants, and attorneys.
- Prepare timely and comprehensive reports at critical junctures of each claim for internal and external use.
- Collaborate with underwriters in the review of policies and policy endorsements.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to the claims team, ensuring that all legal aspects are handled efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal laws affecting EPL claims handling practices.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school and admission to practice law in the state.
- 5+ years of experience as a Claims Attorney, specifically working with Employment Practices Liability.
- Profound knowledge of insurance law and EPL claims.
- Exceptional negotiation, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and cases.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound judgments and decisions based on complex analysis.
- High degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Experience in interpreting and applying insurance policy terms and conditions.
- Proficiency in using legal research tools and claims management software.
