About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Civil Discipline Manager to lead and grow a dynamic, civil engineering group in our Los Angeles office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in land development and vertical construction to take on a leadership role. As the Discipline Manager, you will guide a talented team of mid-level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. You will oversee and manage a diverse range of projects, including those in healthcare, education, commercial, public, and alternative energy sectors, including large battery storage projects. This is a critical position for a proactive and hands-on leader who can provide strategic guidance to an already high-performing and highly profitable group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of civil engineers, helping to develop their technical skills and career growth. Foster a collaborative, results-driven environment where team members are empowered to contribute to their fullest potential.
- Project Oversight & Execution
- Manage and oversee the execution of land development projects supporting vertical construction, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all quality and compliance standards.
- Client & Stakeholder Interaction
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and project partners. Build and maintain strong relationships, providing technical expertise and guidance throughout project lifecycles.
- Quality Control & Technical Oversight
- Ensure the quality of work produced by the team meets company standards and adheres to industry best practices. Review engineering designs, calculations, and plans for accuracy and compliance.
- Resource Planning & Allocation
- Coordinate resource needs for various projects and ensure that the team is adequately staffed to meet project demands. Help identify skill gaps and plan for necessary resources and development.
- Business Development
- Assist in identifying new business opportunities and expanding the firm’s presence in relevant markets. Support proposal development and participate in client meetings to secure new projects.
- Mentorship & Training
- Actively mentor junior and mid-level engineers, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development. Organize training sessions and ensure the team stays current with the latest civil engineering technologies and practices.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Promote and uphold safety standards across all project activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- 10+ years of relevant civil engineering experience, with a focus on land development projects supporting vertical construction
- Strong experience in sectors such as healthcare, educational, commercial, public, or alternative energy projects, including large battery storage projects.
- Proven experience managing and leading teams of engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent knowledge of civil engineering principles, including grading, drainage, site planning, and utility design.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other civil engineering design and analysis tools.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
