Job Title: Design Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Engineering Director
Summary of duties and responsibilities:This position will supply calculation and drawing tasks to assist in developing design documentation for the Engineering Department in the form of structural analyses, design computations, and CAD modeling and detailing for assigned projects. This position will be led by Project Engineers and Project Draftsmen within the department. This position will have limited interaction with clients, Owner Agencies or their agents. This position is located in Cambridge, OH.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Follows direction from Project Engineers to complete engineering tasks for projects
- Uses structural analyses and engineering design tools by inputting geometries, layouts, designed sections and sizes for use in developing bridge designs.
- Uses CAD modeling software to advance designed elements into bridge layouts, sections, details and material sizes for use in developing bridge drawings.
- Prepares basic Material Take-Off Estimates (MTO’s) using spreadsheets and software for use by estimating department.
- Assists with field reconnaissance and develops as-built records for use by Project Engineers.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
- General knowledge of structural analysis, structural analysis methods, finite element analysis methods, mechanics of materials and related software programs is required.
- Exposure to the AASHTO Standard and LRFD Highway Bridge Specifications is required.
- Exposure to bridge analysis software such as STAAD Pro, GT STRUDL, Midas Civil, or LARSA 4D, LEAP, etc.
- General knowledge about construction methods and operations is required.
- Ability to measure and record details and components in the field.
- Ability to draw accurate plans and details in CAD using AutoCAD software is required.
- Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite set of programs or their equivalent is required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A 4-Year Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil (BSCE) Engineering
- Engineer-in-training (EIT) certificate is preferred
WORK CONDITIONS
- General office environment with exposure and visits to fabricating shops.
- Occasional travel is required to job sites or training facilities (less than 20%).
