Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Columbus, Ohio office has an opportunity for an entry level Civil Engineer to join our Great Lakes East Roadway Practice.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, MOT, specifications, cost estimates and other related tasks.
- Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, MS Office, and other design software will be used. All work will be in collaboration with other engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors.
- Candidates with some background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specification are preferred; and must possess strong technical skills, be able to learn and adapt quickly, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment on multi-disciplinary projects.
- May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as occasional field data collection.
- Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
- Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.
- Researches design requirements when needed.
- Keeps Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited school.
- At least one year of previous design or plan production experience related to transportation engineering. This could include internships or full-time job experience.
- Demonstrated professional experience and fundamental skills with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Ability to adapt and learn quickly.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Roadway or Transportation related design and plan production experience within the state of Ohio.
- Familiarity and professional experience with ODOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects. Some experience with City of Columbus or other LPA roadway projects preferred.
- Basic 3D modeling skills and familiarity using OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu.
- EIT certification (or ability to obtain certification within 6 months).
- Experience within the transportation industry.
