We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Northern IL Construction Team. The selected candidate will provide construction phase engineering services to support civil infrastructure projects for the IL Tollway, IDOT, county and municipal clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Functions as a lead inspector, resident or assistant resident engineer, documentation technician, and materials coordinator for large, complex civil engineering projects.
- Interprets construction plans and documents, verifies quantities, measurements, and layouts.
- Maintains project documentation and daily reports of construction site activity and assists with project closeout.
- Works with the contractor and owner to address unexpected conditions and collaborates with the RE to develop alternative solutions.
- Prepares reports, plans, specifications, supporting documents, permit applications and RFI submittals.
- Works collaboratively with all project stakeholders (client, contractor, sub-consultants) and interacts with the public and officials to respond to inquiries and resolve problems.
- Provides guidance to less experienced staff on-site and ensures safety protocols are followed.
Position Requirements
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field and IL PE are desired.
- 5+ years of experience as an inspector on municipal, county or IDOT or Tollway construction projects is required.
- Current IDOT certification for materials and documentation is required and familiarity with IL Tollway materials and documentation procedures is desired.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel and Word) is required.
- Experience with e-Builder, Primavera, CMMS, Fieldsys, MISTIC, and I-MIRS is required.
- Experience with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and GPS equipment is desired.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all project stakeholders and interact with the public to resolve issues during construction.
- Must be able to work independently and serve as a resource to less experienced staff.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to local project sites and work extended hours as needed.
