ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Engineer III (Civil) is responsible for activities related to land development, civil engineering, and permitting. Responsibilities include identifying, assessing land and rights-of-way suitable for the construction of electric facilities. Preparation of applications and submissions to counties, state entities having jurisdiction over zoning, land use, wetland disturbance, environmental compliance and site plan approvals required to construct NOVEC infrastructure. Develop specifications and designs related to NOVEC development and manage contractors performing site work, excavation, roadway work, permitting and civil engineering work for NOVEC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in development of civil plans and designs, material specifications, design cost estimates, and communication of technical and design information to NOVEC customers, government entities and third-party contractors.
- Coordinate activities to ensure timely, accurate preparation, and completion of work related to land and land development.
- Coordinate all federal, state, and local permits necessary for construction of electrical facilities related to land development and civil engineering.
- Perform stormwater and environmental inspections for NOVEC construction substation and distribution projects.
- Collaborate with other departments and divisions on companywide initiatives.
- Collaborate with others to develop, evaluate, and implement new policies and procedures related to land development.
- Provide guidance and direction for professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
- Registration as a professional engineer in civil engineering is preferred
- Five (5) to Eight (8) years of related experience in engineering analysis, planning, permitting and site development
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess the ability to use analytic and/or engineering software.

- Demonstrated knowledge of company policies, procedures and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with general computer operation, CAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and meet rapidly changing customer and business needs by quickly refocusing and realigning strategic and operational direction.
- Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan over a short and long-term focus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of advanced techniques, engineering theories, principles, and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop various specifications and contracts. Ability to develop specifications and interpret adherence to specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and delegate work assignments to meet departmental goals with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to provide accurate cost estimating.
