We're looking to fill two key positions:
- Civil Engineer II – Development Review
- Civil Engineer III – Development Review
What You'll Be Doing:
No two days will be the same as you:
- Review development proposals and make sure they're safe, sustainable, and ready to rock!
- Team up with developers, contractors, and other city departments to keep those projects moving and grooving.
- Put those engineering brains to work evaluating drainage reports, construction plans, traffic studies, and other important documents.
- Become a floodplain guru and provide expert advice.
- Step up to the mic at neighborhood meetings and share your engineering wisdom with the community.

Civil Engineer II:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and completion of Engineer Intern (EI) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification is preferred. At least three-years of experience in Civil Engineering or closely related field is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.
Civil Engineer III:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and completion of Engineer Intern (EI) or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) certification are required. Must have current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado or ability to obtain within six months of hire. Must have current Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification or ability to obtain within one year. At least six-years’ experience in Civil Engineering or closely related field is required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Two of those six years of experience must be related to land development or engineering plan and report review to ensure adequacy and compliance with codes and criteria. Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred.
Knowledge of
- Strong knowledge of roadway and bridge construction specifications, standards and practices
- Strong knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment common to civil engineering operations and land development principles
- Strong knowledge of the City’s Land Development Code, Engineering Standards and Specifications, Stormwater Criteria Manual, Comprehensive Plan, Transportation Plan Experience with Low Impact Development requirements preferred
- Strong knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applicable to civil engineering construction and design function; and familiarity with hydrology and hydraulics including the use of the rational method, and water quality engineering and techniques. Knowledge of MHFD criteria is preferred
- Strong knowledge of standards and regulations governing Public Works projects and project safety
- Strong knowledge of surveying and ability to understand survey reports
- Strong knowledge of floodplain administration
- Strong knowledge of construction and civil engineering terminology
- Strong knowledge of accounting, legal, and municipal government terminology
- Strong knowledge of land development processes, procedures, terminology, and tasks
- Knowledgeable of general land development regulations, planning, zoning, and municipal engineering standards Strong mathematical skills to perform calculations and estimations
- Knowledgeable of Low Impact Development (LID) techniques
- Knowledgeable of stream restoration, preservation, erosion control, MHFD criteria using their High Functioning Low Maintenance approach to stream restoration/preservation.
- Strong customer service skills, including experience and confidence with presentation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong AutoCAD skills
- Ability to present and lead discussions on projects & efforts with a variety of audiences
- Strong human relations skills that support the City and department’s mission
- Ability to communicate and share information with engineering professionals and subordinates; can explain the reasoning behind various standards and specifications
- Ability to assist others in understanding and meeting established standards
- Ability to read blueprints and understand construction plans
- Ability to acquire and apply new skills to projects and work assignments
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions in the best interest of the City
- Ability to read interpret and analyze technical documents, codes and regulations, and professional journals
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedures and proposals
- Ability to present information and respond to questions individually or in a small group
- Ability to performs basic mathematical calculations and complex calculations utilizing formulas; determines percentages and decimals; uses basic systems of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; determines time, weight, and volume
- Ability to apply the principals of logic, scientific thinking, and engineering judgment to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems using multiple complex abstract and concrete variables in order to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to review and edit construction drawings to ensure compliance with specifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and construction professionals, coworkers, and the public
- Ability to work successfully in a team environment to provide excellent customer service
- Commitment to strong organizational and work safety skills and procedures
Compensation details: 36.43-64.05 Hourly Wage
