- Description: a construction professional responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to accurately calculate the cost of a civil engineering project, including materials, labor, and equipment, by preparing detailed estimates and bids to secure contracts for projects like roads, bridges, and sewer systems, while collaborating with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure project feasibility and profitability;
- Reviewing project documents: Thoroughly analyzing blueprints, specifications, and project proposals to understand the scope of work.
- Quantity takeoffs: Accurately calculating the required quantities of materials (concrete, asphalt, rebar, etc.) needed for the project.
- Cost estimation: Determining labor costs based on project complexity, crew size, and anticipated work hours.
- Material pricing: Researching and sourcing current market prices for construction materials.
- Subcontractor bidding: Soliciting and evaluating bids from subcontractors for specialized work.
- Risk assessment: Identifying potential cost risks and contingencies associated with the project.
- Preparing detailed estimates: Compiling all cost elements into a comprehensive bid package, including project schedule and pricing breakdown.
- Bid submission: Submitting competitive bids to clients within specified deadlines.
- Contract negotiation: Collaborating with project managers to negotiate contract terms with clients.
- Post-bid analysis: Reviewing bid results to identify areas for improvement and cost optimization
