The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) is seeking a passionate, full-time Full Stack Software Developer to support work with our partners at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC). SWPC is the nation's official source of space weather alerts and warnings. As part of SWPC's Development and Transition Section (DTS) team, you will transform how our Center delivers vital services supporting aviation, manned-space missions, power grid operators, GPS navigation and more, directly impacting our nation's infrastructure resilience to the influence of solar events.
The Full Stack Software Developer will collaboratively support the applications and services used at the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) for safeguarding society with actionable space weather information.

As part of NOAAs National Weather Service, the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) (https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/) operates 24/7 to provide real-time monitoring and forecasting of solar and geophysical events, which impact satellites, power grids, communications, navigation, and other technological systems. SWPC customers include the general public, industry and government agencies.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
+ Upgrade Critical Systems : Immediately dive into rewriting and upgrading legacy applications used by our centers Space Weather Forecast Office (SWFO) daily to perform critical operations. These applications are used to visualize and analyze the space weather data, guide forecasts, issue alerts, and manage quality control.
+ Create the Future : Going forward, design and build innovative browser-based solutions, making SWPCs services, products and forecasts even more accessible, while contributing to the improvement of our team's development practices.
+ Collaborate and Innovate : Join a dynamic team where your expertise will contribute to modernizing SWPCs entire IT infrastructure.
What You Should Know
+ Access to the NOAA Federal Center and computer facilities is necessary to perform the work of this position. Access is not available for individuals working in the United States through a visa or working permit and therefore we are unable to consider applications from individuals on a visa or working permit, or requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
+ Applicants must be currently authorized to legally work in the United States on a full-time basis.
+ This position will be rostered in CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder but will be physically situated in the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305.
+ If you are selected as a finalist, you will be required to pass a federal laboratory background clearance for site access.

+ The annual hiring salary range for this position is $75,267 - $155,955. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and determined based on our CIRES internal career track classification.
+ Relocation funds are available for this position following CIRES and the University of Colorados relocation processes and procedures.

+ A Bachelor's degree in an IT or physical sciences related field.
+ A minimum of 5 years of experience as a full stack software developer.

+ Front-end Finesse : Demonstrated proficiency in JavaScript, CSS, and working knowledge of frameworks like Vue and Svelte.
+ Back-end Backbone : Demonstrated expertise in Python or Java, and experience at programmatically interacting with SQL and NoSQL databases (Microsoft SQL and MongoDB ideal).
