Position Summary:
This position leads the birth-Kindergarten Ministry at Good Shepherd Church. They will work with the Children's Ministry team to lead large group ministry opportunities, the nursery, faith milestones, and special events. This position develops a volunteer/servant team to create relevant evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, service, and worship experiences that engages people to grow their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Job Location: Naperville, IL
Hours: 40 hours per week including Sunday mornings and some additional nights/weekends for special events.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church focuses on serving the spiritual needs of our local community and leveraging the time, talents and financial resources of people in this area, to help others in our community, across the nation, and around the world. Good Shepherd has over 20 employees and about 700 active members who attend weekly. We also have over 15 different ministries to connect with members of the church ranging from children, teens, and adults as well as focused ministries such as grief support and mental health awareness. Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Children's Ministry and Family Life team to develop and execute birth through Kindergarten ministry to both children and their parents.
- Create environments, activities, and ministry which facilitates learning and encourages spiritual growth for parents as the primary spiritual leader for their children.
- Work with the Disability Ministry to assess and evaluate situations that would provide support as needed.
- Provide opportunities for children to grow as disciples in Christ as they study, serve, worship, pray, and share their faith with others.
- Assist in planning and implementing various meetings for both leaders and parents.
- Contribute to the care, maintenance and cleanliness of our space, regarding policies/procedures and security/safety of children.
- Attend conferences and other learning and networking opportunities to stay creative and current.
Sunday Morning:
- Plan and prepare for Early Childhood programming which includes set-up, ordering materials, organizing supplies, and executing the program alongside the Children's Minister.
- Recruit, train, mentor, appreciate, and equip all volunteers in the Early Childhood ministry.
- Schedule and coordinate weekly volunteers as well as substitutes.
- Modify and prepare curriculum from available options and supplement as needed.
- Observe and participate/occasionally teach curriculum to assess its effectiveness.
Special Events:
- Coordinate and implement various ministry opportunities with Children's Ministry or Family Life teams such as: Vacation Bible School, Easter Bash, and Family Worship Services.
- Coordinate, execute and debrief faith milestones for children ages birth through Kindergarten, including baptism classes and ceremonies.
- Hire, train, and coordinate childcare (ages birth through 14) supporting church-wide events such as new member classes, baptism classes, adult learning opportunities, small group gatherings, and congregational meetings.
Requirements:
- Completion of some college coursework and 2+ years of experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and commitment to disciple others
- Ability to actively participate in the Good Shepherd faith community including worship, special events, and spiritual growth opportunities
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to attract, develop, and lead people and/or ministry teams
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint)
