JOB TYPE:

• Salary: 52,500- 55,000, commensurate with experience. 
• Full time 35 (paid) hour work week, salaried with 5 hours of unpaid lunch
• Some evenings required
• In person, on-site role with some flexibility of hours

This role is at Transition House and the search is being assisted by Jessye Kass Consulting.                                                                                                               

Role Summary:

With a focus on child well-being and trauma recovery from the impacts of domestic violence, the Child & Family Support Coordinator provides advocacy, consultation, referral, coordination, and direct support to children, youth, and parents who are survivors of domestic violence as well as training and education in the community. This role will provide service in shelter, office and community.

Who we are: 

Transition House’s mission is to end domestic violence in our community. Sparking social change in  Cambridge, Massachusetts since 1976, we are an innovative organization that develops prevention tools  and provides holistic support and a range of housing options for individuals and families surviving domestic and intimate partner violence. For over 45 years, Transition House has worked with partners within the  Cambridge community to create and sustain options for survivors, their families and people who use harm.  These options include short- and longer-term housing and a rich Community Program that supports people living and connected to the community. We use the empowerment model and survivor  centered framework to support survivors.  

Our Reach:

Transition House provides emergency shelter and long term housing options to 40 families at a time and supports 100 individuals in the Cambridge community. We provide a continuum of interwoven supports to survivor adults, children and families.

• Salary range is $52,500-$55,000
• Additional compensation for fluency in one or more of the following languages:  Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Vietnamese, Amharic.

• LICSW supervision toward licensure hours is available. 

Summary of Duties:

No day will be the same.  You will have the opportunity to wear many hats.  You are passionate and committed to serving people in need.  You will be responsible for providing domestic violence support services and advocacy through an empowerment model and survivor centered framework

• Develop and support the implementation of trauma informed, child-centered practices in our organization
• Provide a child’s perspective in program planning and service provision
• Plan, coordinate & deliver youth-specific programming and activities 
• Orient, support, and coordinate efforts of PlaySpace volunteers which includes being on site for at least 2 playspace shifts/week (6pm-8:30pm)
• Develop a trusting relationship with parents through creative milieu interventions, flexibly responding to needs and offering support strategies as needed/requested
• Develop and sustain community partnerships in support of children and families, including, among others:  school, daycare, camp
• Accompany and advocate with parents on behalf of families in various settings including: juvenile/family court, daycare/schools, Department of Children & Families, etc.
• Provide consultations to colleagues, families, & collateral contacts
• Provide crisis response as part of a collaborative team
• Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and staff meetings.
• Develop and present community education & professional trainings to community partners
• Provide guidance and consultation to other Transition House staff to help them provide the best trauma-informed care for families with children and teens
• Represent Transition House at community meetings related to violence prevention and children

What we need from you: 

• Experience providing trauma informed support to children and families
• Education and training in child development
• Education in domestic violence, human service and/or clinical training highly preferred 
• Demonstrated ability to provide services to children/families from diverse backgrounds and on behalf of people who are socially marginalized including individuals who are low income, immigrants, homeless, mentally ill, struggle with substance use, and are survivors of domestic violence.
• Knowledge of family systems, PTSD, conflict resolution, domestic violence, and crisis intervention strongly preferred
• Understands the impact of chronic trauma on adults and children as well as best practices in trauma-informed social service
• Able to climb stairs frequently, move items up to 30 pounds.

• Work is performed in a non-traditional office environment as well as in the on-site play room, meeting rooms, living spaces of residential program participants, & other locations as needed
