Job Summary
Nestled in a walkable neighborhood, Channing House is a leading not-for-profit Life Plan Community in Palo, founded in 1960. Our team of 180 staff members, from Front-Line to Leadership, drive the mission of Channing House, providing essential services to our 265 highly engaged residents who call Channing House their home. As we look forward to 2025, Channing House is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our team by managing the day-to-day operations for all levels of living (Residential Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing), expanding programs and services, and contributing to our goal of being a role model in the field of Aging Services.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will exemplify our Core Values: Do the right thing; Be a team player; Focused on quality; Adapt to change. You will lead the team in promoting a healthy and vibrant home for our residents while guiding and supporting our dedicated and talented staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish program goals and objectives aligned with the Mission Statement and Core Values as part of the Executive Team.
- Lead the development of new programs and services, including expanding memory support services and enhancing wellness programming.
- Continuously assess and improve organizational processes, services, and amenities to meet resident expectations and budgetary requirements.
- Lead special projects and long-term planning for physical operations in collaboration with the CEO.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to management and staff, fostering professional development and high-functioning teams.
- Ensure timely responses to questions and concerns raised by residents, families, and committees.
- Act on behalf of the CEO in their absence and lead risk management initiatives.
- Collaborate with the CFO to lead departmental budget development and ensure budgeted operations are achieved.
- Work with the CFO to meet community occupancy goals by managing prompt residence turnovers.
- Provide supervision and training for Administrator in Training (AIT).
- Serve as the point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Oversee the development of policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and best practices.
- Manage quality improvement programs across all levels of care.
- Stay current with industry changes by attending workshops and seminars.
- Interpret policies and procedures for employees, residents, families, and government agencies.
- Directly supervise departments including Nursing Services, Dining Services, Facilities, and Resident Services.
- Manage recruitment, training, development, and performance management of staff.
- Lead by example with positivity, teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Must be certified as an RCFE administrator in California, or able to obtain certification within three (3) months of employment.
- Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) in California is preferred.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree and five (5) or more years of management experience in a related field.
- Must be knowledgeable of Title 22 and policies related to residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs).
- Knowledge of Title 22 related to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable with personal computers and software (including EMR).
