Overall Responsibility:
This position manages the direction of patient care in the Hospital.Has 24 hour a day, seven days a week responsibility for staffing and problem resolution.Consults with staff, physicians, and other nursing units on nursing problems and interpretation of Hospital policies and procedures to ensure that patient needs are met.Responsible for staffing, orientation, clinical education, competency evaluation, policies and procedures related to clinical areas.Assists in formulating the operating and capital budgets and ensures efficient and cost-effective use of human and material resources in delivering quality services.

Key tasks and responsibilities
1.Develops in conjunction with the Hospital Administrator the Hospitals Performance Improvement Plan.
2.Facilitates Performance Improvement/ Safety Committee to coordinate improvement of care and achievement of the mission of the Hospital.
3.Participate in Quality Improvement programs including USPI EDGE
4.Ensures compliance with regulatory boards/state, including, but not limited to The Joint Commission, Medicare, OSHA, AAAHC and the State Health Department in conjunction with the CEO and Medical Director.
5.Reviews new regulations for updates needed in Hospital policies and procedures/standards.
6.In conjunction with Hospital Administrator prepares for visits from regulatory agencies.
7.Ensures performance of nursing functions in all areas is according to policy and procedure.
8.Coordinates functions of the departments leaders including supervision of personnel, evaluations, orientation of new employees and current employees to new procedures.
9.Coordinates and manages all aspects of departmental operations.
10.Fosters growth and development of management and leadership skills in managers and team members.
11.Assists with preparation, monitoring and adherence to annual hospital and operational budgets.
12.Accurately identifies and expeditiously resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services.
13.Develops standards of care and performance for services provided and implements a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation and improvement of performance standards.
14.Actively promotes a positive image of hospital with the public and professional community.
15.Maintains expertise with computer-based programs, and utilizes reports to improve performance and ensures full utilization of system by staff.
16.Assesses own performance using insight and constructive feedback to set goals to enrich knowledge and skills required to perform role.
17.Maintains a positive work environment for staff and physicians which promotes team efforts.
18.Ensures adequate staffing in order to achieve the department’s function and purpose.
19.Adheres to established departmental operation and salary budgets, and provides explanations of budget variances, as requested.
20.Ensures performance evaluations are current and reviewed by employees during an annual performance improvement interview.
21.Ensures initial departmental orientation and competency review for newly hired employees, all licenses/credentials certificates for applicable personnel are valid and up to date, ensures all job descriptions for each job classification are in accordance with policy and procedures during an annual human resources interview.
22.Analyzes nursing care provided in the departments related to the established standards of care.
23.Knowledgeable of proper handling of narcotics, sign-out and return, according to the hospital policies and DEA guidelines.
24.Follows up/investigates all variances in narcotic administration/counting in conjunction with the Pharmacist.
25.Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
26.Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.
27.Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.
28.Actively participates in the Safety Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, Infection Control Committee, Peer Review Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and Board of Managers. Distributes information from each of these committees to ensure a smooth flow of information.

Required Skills
Licensure and Certification:
- BCLS, if not current, certification within 90 days of hire.
- Licensed as an RN in the state of Oklahoma.
Required Experience
Experience required:
- Master’s degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in similar positions will be considered in lieu of master’s degree.
- Two to five (2 5 years) of management experience required.
- Five to seven (5 7) years of management experience preferred.
