Position Summary: The CFO will oversee all financial aspects of the company, providing strategic leadership and guidance to ensure financial health and compliance. This includes strategic financial planning, management of financial risks, financial record-keeping, statistical reports for management and/or Board, audit activities, and financial reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of financial planning, analysis, reporting, and risk management.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support company goals.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
- Manage cash flow and working capital to ensure operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to guide decision-making and investment opportunities.
- Lead the finance department, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
- Communicate financial insights and recommendations to the executive team, the board and stakeholders.
- Oversee general and grant accounting, reconciliation, regulatory reporting, tax, and financial reporting functions.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP regulations.
- Oversee monthly journal entries for all entities.
- Compile and report variances to the Executive Director along with monthly financial statements.
- Responsible for oversight of all daily cash accounting including reconciliation of bank statements.
- Responsible for filing various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for all entities to city, county, state, and federal agencies.
- Make recommendations to improve financial report systems, disbursement, payroll policies, and procedures.
- Provide ad hoc support for any troubleshooting of systems managed by Finance.
- Ensure the financial accounting procedures manual is up to date and consistent with best practices.
- Lead annual external audit processes; prepare and support audits from other agencies as contractually required.
- Interact and advise the Executive Team on matters of tax, external regulatory reporting, and budget development and reporting, both annual and monthly performance reporting.
- Perform other duties and projects as may be assigned by the Associate Executive Director.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or CPA is a plus.
Minimum Work Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of previous hands-on accounting, financial reporting, and analysis experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of working at a non-profit organization.
- 5-10 years of progressive management experience in finance or accounting, ideally within a nonprofit of similar size and structure.
- Relevant understanding and experience with US GAAP.
- Current or recent non-profit experience.
Other Qualifications:
- Must complete a Live Scan Background Check.
- Attention to detail, strong analytical, organization and communication skills, and solid record-keeping are a must.
- Ability to successfully work on a range of assignments and prioritize evolving tasks.
- Ability to maintain a time-efficient process of gathering/incorporating feedback from many authority sources.
- Consistently produce high-quality, accurate, and user-friendly reports, updates, and presentations.
Background Check Requirement: The successful candidate for this position will be required to pass or clear two background checks. The first background check will be conducted by Project Kinship as per our policies and procedures. The second background check will be conducted by Funders through our contracted vendors, after the candidate is hired with Project Kinship, in accordance with our contractual agreements. Failure to pass either of these background checks may result in the withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment.
Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance: The successful candidate for this position will be required to provide documentation of a clear TB (tuberculosis) test or shot, in compliance with Project Kinship’s policy. Failure to provide proof of TB clearance may result in the withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment.

Pay: $145,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
